Seeking those things which are above

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:1-3

Blessings in JESUS’ Name.

Upon meditating on the verse stated above, and with the constant thought about life and eternity, it has been revealed to us that there is one thing that continually hinders the growth of our relationship with God, even our constant walk and service to Him.

A lot of people have been Christians for a long time already or may profess to be part of a Christian Church for most of their lives, but they wonder why they still experience a stagnant Christian living. People who claim to know God but live the opposite thereof, not fully experiencing the power of the Lord working in their lives.

And surely, one of the reasons of this stagnant Christian living is our tendency to be consumed on other things, specifically things of this world or about oneself, rather than on Jesus.

This world presents us with every pleasing thing we could ever ask or think of. Modern technologies that make life easier, various social media platforms that connect us to the other parts of the world in seconds, and even the opportunity it gives even to ordinary people to become famous or trending in all parts of the world. With such modernization and progress the world has achieved, a simple person might ask, what else could he/she ask for and what more could he/she be missing out? When it seems that the world is now able to give all that a person ever needed or wanted, there is One Great thing that he/she is missing/lacking, and that is a personal relationship with God. Or should I say an INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP with the TRUE Lover of our Soul, JESUS.

I’m not saying this to boast about my own Christian walk, for I tell you, my friends, my life, too, is a work in progress and my journey has just been a testimony of God’s goodness and grace. I’m saying this as a person who has experienced struggles in my Christian journey simply because I allowed this world to distract me in the past. But still, God’s goodness and love overflows, as He continually hold us and hides us in His love.

His words continually remind us that there is one thing that we must do, and that is to seek those things which are above, to find our joy and delight in the presence of JESUS. This world may offer us every material thing we could ever think of but nothing equates to the joy that He gives. The things we gain in this world are all temporary, while what the Lord is offering us is for eternity. For the grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of our God stands forever. When we turn to the world to find the satisfaction of our souls we will just be disappointed, but in the Name of JESUS there is satisfaction, freedom, and every good thing.

This year, 2018, don’t let the world continually dictate your identity or the things that could make you happy. Instead, turn to JESUS and find your completeness in Him. 🙂 This year, the Lord is calling and asking you to have an intimate relationship with Him. He is waiting for you to return to His love, seek His words, and lay down your burdens, yes you read that right! We no longer have to carry our burdens alone, for we can lay it all down at the feet of Jesus. 🙂
